Art & Photo Gallery
I am a visual artist. My mediums includes fiber, paint and the camera lens.
Fiber Art – This is a shawl which can also be used as a wall hanging.
This piece was created by first randomly choosing colors, knitting hand-size pieces then crocheting them together. This kind of “no pattern” knitting is fun because it allows for a generous amount of creative expression.
This particular technique is called modular knitting and is great because it requires very little skill. A beginner knitter can easily knit a yarn collage like this – the challenge is in piecing it all together so as it looks good. The real fun begins when you start assembling your work and realize that by some stroke of genius, it magically all fits together to form a phenomenal piece of fiber art!
Here we have an example of knitting in different directions until a square is shaped and then crocheting the squares together to make various forms. In this case I’ve made a Kimono Jacket out of 12 squares.
Here’s yet another “artful” expression. This one is called “Tie One On” and it is a such fun to design
Art is created when we let go and allow the unknown to express through us.
Painting – The Making Of Art – I love abstract art because it opens me to all the possibilities in the world of color without the restriction of form. Art is what is born out of inspiration.
Creating art is like taking a journey, having no idea where you are going to end up and being inspired by that. Painting in the abstract expands me because it provides me with the opportunity to explore the unknown, release judgements, expand my perception and have fun with the process.
Photography - Understanding The World According To Light One of my fa
vorite forms of expression is with a camera. I always pack a point and shoot with me wherever I go. Some of my best work has been done with throw away cameras.
This shot on the right was taken on a totally lack-luster day while on a drive through the mountains. I was stopped in a rest area when suddenly I saw this extraordinary light streaming through the clouds.
There was just enough sun behind those clouds to allow me to see thehandy work of God in action. This is a shot of the light streaming through the clouds in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. I titled it “Fingers of God”.
Dazzeling Light Art
I frequent art galleries as often as I can. And sometimes the best art is in places I’d least expect it to be.
Following an afternoon with Matise, Monet and Madiglioni I headed for the cafeteria for something to eat.
Here is a picture of the tunnel of lights that connects the main gallery and the cafeteria at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C.
By choice I’m more a of a nature photographer.
I always bring a camera with me on outings. I’m especially mesmerized by sunsets. This one was over Lake Champlain in Vermont.
Animals Never Pose For Pictures – unless they do.
This is one of those once- in-a -lifetime kind of shots one could never plan for.
The love of my life – His Holiness The Dahling Leo – napping in the sun one cold Vermont winter day
Got this shot of “Mr. Seal” on an early morning beach walk while visiting Nova Scotia. The fog was so thick that we both surprised each other. I almost tripped over this beautiful beached sea creature.

What a visual feast! I especially love the concept of modular knitting. That shawl is just fabulous. Thanks again for visiting my blog and taking the time to comment.
Martha Marshall´s last [type] ..Finished Painting and a Work in Progress
My pleasure Martha. Glad you liked the gallery. Those shawls are a lot of fun to do. I have used that one as both a wrap and a wall hanging.
